TimberFever was held at Ryerson University for the first two days of the competition, followed by University of Toronto for the last two days of the competition. The event is organized by a team of Ryerson students.

“We created this competition to get future architects, engineers and professional trades working together before they graduate and enter the workforce.” Says David Moses, creator of TimberFever and principal of Moses Structural Engineers.

Each team was given a limited amount of supplies, including plywood, screws, nails, brackets, fabric and a StopGap.ca access ramp. The wood was supplied by Kott Lumber and Tamarack; tools were supplied by Stanely/DeWalt; and Carpenters Union (Local 27) provided hands-on support to the teams and helped them with construction.

The event was a tremendous success with 16 teams from universities across Canada, including Ryerson, University of Toronto, University of New Brunswick, University of Quebec, Laurentian, and Waterloo.

“Since the beginning, we’ve felt a real sense of community around TimberFever, where everyone comes together to collaborate, teach and inspire. It’s been wonderful to watch.” Says Moses.

“We are passionate about designing and building with wood, and we want to share all the positive attributes of this wonderful material with the next generation of designers.”

About TimberFever

TimberFever is a design-build competition presented by Moses Structural Engineers. We bring architecture and civil engineering students from universities across Canada together to build a life-size structure out of wood.

Our mission is to create collaboration between students of architecture and engineering, while developing design, construction and communication skills that will be invaluable to their future careers.

Moses Structural Engineers first began the competition in 2015 with Ryerson students only. Since then it has doubled in size and expanded to universities across Canada.

TimberFever was inspired by the Defi Cecobois competition held annually by Cecobois in Quebec. Nous vous remercions, Cecobois, de nous inspirer!
