TimberFever Design-Build Competition announces winners for its 5-year anniversary
Architectural and civil engineering students from universities across Canada competed this past weekend in the fifth annual TimberFever Design-Build Competition, presented by Moses Structural Engineers and hosted at Ryerson University in Toronto.
A mix of students from architecture and civil engineering programs across Canada were placed in 16 teams with limited building supplies, and they collaborated on design and construction. Participants were given a surprise brief at the start of the four-day competition, and this year they were tasked with building an Urban Parklet out of wood.

TimberFever was created by Moses Structural Engineers with a vision of collaboration and hands-on experience.
“We’ve been working hard to make TimberFever a truly national competition. It’s amazing to have students coming in from across the country to compete and we look forward to seeing that number grow,” says David Moses, principal of Moses Structural Engineers and founder of TimberFever.
“Our volunteers and sponsors are largely to thank for making all this possible. In fact, for each student who competes, there are two volunteers supporting them.”
“There’s a lot of coordination that goes into making TimberFever a success – we have team members at our office working with Ryerson students to plan the event, and approximately 50 student volunteers working throughout the four-day event to keep everything on schedule and handle the logistics of tools, supplies, meals, project display, cleanup etc..”
The event was held at Ryerson University from September 12-15, 2019. The first, second, and third place winners were announced at the TimberFever Awards Ceremony this past Sunday.

About TimberFever
TimberFever is a design-build competition presented by Moses Structural Engineers. We bring architecture and civil engineering students from universities across Canada together to build a life-size structure out of wood.
Our mission is to create collaboration between students of architecture and engineering, while developing design, construction and communication skills that will be invaluable to their future careers.
Moses Structural Engineers first began the competition in 2015 with Ryerson students only. Since then it has doubled in size and expanded to universities across Canada.
TimberFever was inspired by the Defi Cecobois competition held annually by Cecobois in Quebec. Nous vous remercions, Cecobois, de nous inspirer!
